Vikas Khanna defends Gauri Khan amid controversy

The celebrity chef recently took to his social media to put out a statement regarding the matter. He shared a story where the chef defended Gauri’s restaurant and stated that “I’ve been cooking & working with the science of food for the past several decades. I’ve never seen such terrible misinformation, like a YouTuber who claims to be a food scientist.”
He also added that “IODINE changes colour with reaction under the presence of ingredients: potatoes, rice, bread, cornflour, flour, and unripe bananas. The use of these ingredients (and thus the reaction) could also happen in cross-contamination. It’s scary that unqualified people are taken seriously.”

Controversy surrounding fake paneer

A few days ago, Guari Khan, wife of SRK, has been part of a major controversy surrounding her restaurant ‘Torii’. A social media content creator Sarthak Sachdeva shared a video of performing an iodine tincture test on paneer, used mainly to find out whether there has been any starch adulteration or not.
Sachdeva performed the test on a piece of paneer he claimed was from Torii, and when the piece turned blue and black, he declared that it was fake. The influencer also performed the tests on paneer bought from various other celebrity-owned chains, such as Bobby Deol, Shilpa Shetty, and cricketer Virat Kohli, all of which did not undergo any colour change.

The restaurant’s statement as controversy rises

Gauri Khan’s restaurant released an official statement on the matter. In a comment in response to the original video itself, ‘Torii’s’ official account stated that “The iodine test reflects the presence of starch, not the authenticity of the paneer. As the dish contains soy-based ingredients, this reaction is expected. We stand by the purity of our paneer and the integrity of our ingredients at Torii.”
